Some important developments like the #KADREAHub launch, Award nominations for KADREA GALA 2019, new courses, BCREA Updates and Membership changes took place amidst all the real business. Welcome to the latest update on Real Estate in Kamloops & District.

KADREA HUB:

After months of deliberation and continuous effort from all our Board of Directors and committee members, the redevelopment of old KADREA office and its transformation into a learning and training centre - THE KADREA HUB, was finally completed in August 2019. An Open-House was held on August 21, to showcase the facility and to test the capabilities of this new resource for REALTORS® and the Kamloops community.

The HUB is now up and running. You can download the booking form here:

Word from KADREA President, Wendy Runge:

“We wanted our association to be the centre for our members as far as knowing where they can get training, where they can get education and get information. The Hub is going to be a really important entity for two things, one is for our membership, we will have an opportunity to do a lot better training there and it’s also an opportunity for us to reach out to our stakeholders to be able to provide places for meetings to happen or the city to come in and have conversations with our members.

The Kamloops Starbucks team was here for a day-long meeting the other day. Cheers to the team for many more meetings to come at the HUB!

BCREA UPDATE:

Real estate practice (regulatory reform) :–

On August 13, BCREA CEO Darlene Hyde and Vice President of Government Relations and Stakeholder Engagement Trevor Hargreaves met with Deputy Minister of Finance Lori Wanamaker. Ms. Wanamaker informed us that legislation to amend the Real Estate Services Act will not be introduced until fall 2020. She also said that there has been no decision made on the future structure of OSRE and Council. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to consult with member boards and REALTORS®, and then finalize and share our recommendations for regulatory reform with Minister of Finance Carole James in our next meeting, scheduled for October 21.

Market housing affordability :–
BCREA has formed a working group with other real estate organizations to create a joint statement on housing affordability and the B-20 stress test. We will publish our recommendations prior to the October federal election.

Market housing affordability :–
The BC Government is providing 50 municipalities and ten regional districts nearly $1.5 million in grants for developing housing needs reports. The reports will ensure local governments collect data, analyze trends and develop a report every five years on current and anticipated housing needs. The next intake for funding is open until November 29, 2019.
